We work to make Jerusalem into a place where every person will have the freedom to be themselves

The jerusalem open house for pride and tolarance is a social change organization

that operates an educational, therapeutic, multidisciplinary community center for the LGBTQIA+ community

Since 1997, we work to turn jerusalem into a city where every person will have the freedom to be themselves and live their life, and to build an israeli liberal ploralist model society, whit full equal rights to sexual and gender minorities.

Who are we?

The Open House in Jerusalem was established in 1997 by Jerusalem activists from the LGBTQIA+ community, who decided that they could not wait for a better reality – they would change their lives themselves. After two years in which it was planned by dozens of volunteers, our first community center opened, in the Ben-Yehuda pedestrian street in the center of the city. In October 2002, we raised the pride flag for the first time from the balcony of the open house.

Areas of activity

Since its establishment, the open house has been operating in two areas of activity that complete each other-

1.Providing services to the gay community in Jerusalem-  through a community center and a mental and physical health center that operates in the heart of the city and serves the entire diverse LGBT community.

2.Social change – through the Pride and Tolerance events in Jerusalem, public and legal struggles and an educational center that works with professionals in the fields of care, education and health, foreign delegations, businesses and formal and informal educational institutions from Israel and the world.

The founders could not have imagined that 20 years after it was founded and against all odds, the open house would be one of the most prominent centers of LGBT activity in the Middle East; a vibrant community organization that stands at the front of the global struggle for equal rights from its seat in the beloved, complex, holy Jerusalem, torn by political ethnic and religious conflicts – Jerusalem to which millions of eyes are drawn from all over the world.

We are proud of our democratic community heritage that provides a holistic service basket for the community, instituted by the community. So today, we are committed to a non-violent struggle, pluralism and respect for individual rights. We aim to break through to an era of action by communities and for communities which will be a זרז for building a tolerant and equal Israeli society.
